The business can choose to certify in one or more of the categories listed.
Facility (5 checkmarks required):
- Complete a water use assessment of your facility.
- Use an automated shut-off sprayer nozzle on all hoses.
- Install or utilize a water efficient non-flushing or 0.5 gal. per flush urinal.
- Install water efficient aerators: Sink faucets (1.5gpm) and kitchen faucet (2.2gpm).
- Install pre-rinse valves (1.6 gal. per min at 8-psi).
- Install quick-closing toilet flappers.
- Install auto shut-off faucets in restrooms.
- Install toilet retrofit kits.
- Landscape- Install water efficient irrigation.
- Landscape- Use drought resistant native and Mediterranean plant species in lieu of turf.
- Group plants with similar water requirements on the same irrigation line.
- Install pressure reducing valves (70 psi).
- Placer County: Sign up or participate in the Placer County Water Agency (PCWA) or City of Roseville Water Efficiency Programs
Practices (5 checkmarks required):
- Routinely check and repair plumbing leaks.
- Remind employees to turn off sinks when not in use (via signage or other communication).
- Adopt sweeping and mopping in lieu of hosing indoor floors.
- Routinely review water meter and bill for fluctuations (potentially detect leaks).
- Adjust boiler and cooling tower settings recommended by manufacturer specifications.
- Landscape- Irrigate plants during early morning hours (12am-5am).
- Landscape- install a smart irrigation control using weather-based information to adjust watering accordingly.
- Landscape- adjust sprinkler heads for maximum plant coverage. Adjust watering schedule seasonally. Monitor and repair leaks as necessary.
- Landscape- Change plant fertilizing schedule to “as needed.”
- Landscape- Apply ground cover at 2-inch depth of mulch around plants.
- Landscape-Route downspouts to landscape area or rain garden.
- Landscape-Adjust irrigation to recommended watering schedule by local water utility (contact BERC for guidelines as needed).
- Install a rain collection system for watering plants.
- Utilize a “zero discharge” carwash service for company vehicles.
